(You can only write “I felt/saw his arousal” so many times □) I mostly zoned out for those scenes. A Touch of Darkness is the first book in the Hades and Persephone series by Scarlett St. Personally? The first couple scenes were steamy, but – after that – it felt repetitive. I’m not one to purposefully seek out smut, so I can’t say how Darkness compares to your typical erotica-focused story. I had no idea it was that sort of book when I checked it out from the library. They lacked the subtle charm and allure of the comic … and most had the cognitive capabilities of a 5-year-old.īut, what about the sex? That’s the reason we’re here, right? Unfortunately, these semblances were only skin deep. I was only sorta joking about the Lore Olympus thing: the characters here bear uncanny similarities to Smythe’s, from Persephone’s bookishness to Hades’s CEOness to Demeter’s greenhouseness. If she loses, she has to spend the rest of her life in the Underworld. It’s a basic Hades/Persephone story, with a modern twist: university student (and goddess-in-disguise) Persephone makes a bet with bad boy nightclub owner Hades. I don’t have a ton to say about this book. What I got: A novelized, smutty version of Lore Olympus … minus the charm. What I wanted: A modern day Hades and Persephone retelling.
